So the debate continues. I ended last night with dokuwiki and the OSM plugin. Very easy to upload my gpx file and add a map. Waypoints/markers on the map are also possible. Plus I can add photos and text readily.

If I wanted one site to do everything, I could do it with dokuwiki. Blog, wiki, notes, journal and private sections. It’s all webUI and clicky but plain text files underneath. It’s been around forever but is still actively maintained. There are plugins for just about anything. It is very tempting. My only niggle is that it’s a lot of effort to theme and most existing themes aren’t that great. I do like the default style of it though so maybe not a big deal. I while ago…maybe 10 years… I did have my site as just dokuwiki. Maybe I’d solved the problem back then.

I did get side tracked with self hosted trails and tracker tools. Sites dedicated to uploading routes and having photos etc. or getting stats from them or planning new ones. They looked nice but also a bit bespoke. I do think I’ll install something that extracts my Garmin connect data for me though. Maybe FitTrackee or Garmin Grafana. There are a few Garmin data downloaders so I’ll have to check them out. Garmin offers a bulk data download but these other tools do more stuff.

I mostly want to do all these things for me not share/compete etc. I did make an account on Wikiloc but it’s just like Strava, Alltrails etc. and I don’t care about that. I can also use dokuwiki to plan new routes, capture gpx files I’ve made on plotaroute or other websites with timetable and notes. Especially something more complex involving multiple days or trips away.

I had a big folder of SOTA activation photos on Dropbox but as I was running out of space I moved them. But now I can’t find them 🤔. Which is weird. There aren’t many places I would’ve put them but they’ve just disappeared… I should still have them all on my phone and the ones I did blog about are on the website. It’s more annoying than anything else.
